My First Make of The Year
I want to start out with and share my first make of the year. And discuss the inspiration for my sewing projects for winter. I was going through the remnants fabric pile at Wal-Mart and came across it. There were four yards rolled together for $4. This was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t believe it!
I made this cute boxy top and short set. The shorts have peekaboo printed pockets, and the shirt is really roomy and comfortable. And the material is very soft knit. I absolutely love it.
Since my theme for my winter sewing projects is comfortable, cozy, and loose fitting, I think that this boxer set is very fitting for me since I just had surgery and have several months to recover.
Winter Sewing Plans + Patterns
Briefly, the patterns that I’m going to be sharing in today’s video are all self-drafted by me, and a couple of them will include a couple of Indie sewing patterns shown below.
Fabric Haul
All of the Fabrics I’m sharing today are from Joann Fabrics, and when I bought them, they were all on sale, so that’s a win! This post is not sponsored; I’m just sharing everything that I love.
All of the Fabrics have already been washed and dried, and they’re now ready for ironing.
Dark Orange Plaid Cotton Flannel
First up is this orange plaid brush cotton flannel. It comes in 44 in width and it’s 100% cotton. I picked up 2 and 1/2 yards with the large plaid design; this fabric will make the best long PJ bottom with an elastic waistband or even a boxer set.
I learned that they had enough of this fabric left over for my sewing project because this color is so dreamy. It’s so soft to the touch, and it flows nicely, and it’s not very see-through, and it didn’t need much ironing. Most of the wrinkles came out after drying in the dryer.
Pastel Madras Plaid Cotton Flannel
This fabric is the pastel Madras plaid brush cotton flannel, and I love it! It’s so girly and delicious with sweet colors, and it looks like cotton candy to me.
I have to make some long PJs with this fabric, hands down, and maybe include a poncho wrap, or my second choice would be a cute, loose, boxy jumpsuit. I really can’t decide, so let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below. Should I make PJ pants or a jumpsuit?
This fabric came in a 57-inch width 100% cotton, and I got 2 and 1/2 yards of this. I was lucky that they had enough yardage for my project. It’s also soft to the touch, and it flows nicely, and is not very see-through the wrinkles came out after drying in the dryer as well.
White, Comfy, Cozy Flannel
Next up is this white, comfy, cozy flannel and it comes in a 43-inch width 100% cotton. This lightweight fabric is so simple, and it would make the perfect cargo PJ pants and maybe a lightweight wrap top.
I got four yards of this fabric, and it’s brushed on both sides, and it’s so soft and so warm, and it also has a nice flow, and it’s close to about a medium weight. It’s thick enough not to see through, but it’s light enough to stay cozy and warm without overheating.
Rainbow Super Snuggle Flannel
This next fabric is so fun. It has darling rainbows, and it has such a fun name. It’s called the Rainbow Super Snuggle Flannel, and I chose rust as its fabric color.
I have so much of this fabric I think I’m just going to keep it simple and make some boxer shorts or make a Batwing top, or a poncho. Either way, I think it’ll be really cute.
I have to say that all of these flannel Fabrics that I chose are so soft and flowy and seem like they’re really easy to handle. I think I really got lucky with this!
Ditsy Floral Knit Fabric
Next is the ditsy floral knit fabric in the colors that I love. And I have to say that this knit has been by far the easiest fabric that I’ve ever dealt with. I washed it and dried it, and it came out with absolutely no wrinkles, and I love that story. Oh my gosh, it’s so nice.
So my sewing plan for this is to make a flared pant and a matching tie top with flared arms. I chose the sewing designers Maria and Marina. Marina is with Indie Patterns. I found her on Etsy. I chose the Flared Summer pants. And for Maria, with Make it Yours, the Label. I chose the Long Sleeve Tie Top Sewing Pattern.
This fabric is very lightweight and flowy. Maybe not so much as warm as the others, but it’s really cute I picked up 3.5 yards, and it came in a 59-inch width stretchy lightweight flowy fabric.
Athleisure Cable Knit Fabric
This fabric is going to be my most challenging. I’ve never really worked with this type of fabric before. This fabric is called athleisure cable knit cotton Spandex, and I picked up 2 and 1/2 yards. I hope to make either a sweater dress or an attempt to sew knit cargo pants.
I don’t even know if that’s possible, but I will think about it and possibly try it. It flows nicely, and it comes in a shade of pink at a 57-inch width fabric.

Recap of Fall Plans and Fabric
This is just a small recap of the Fall fabric haul that I just did. I mentioned in my last video that I recently had spine surgery. If you didn’t see the video, I’ll go ahead and Link it above.
Because of the spine surgery, I wasn’t able to satisfy any of my sewing projects for the fall, so what I’m going to do is some of the fall projects that I had planned. I’m going to go ahead and merge them with my winter sewing projects.
All of the fabric choices and the sewing patterns that I have listed for the Fall recap will be listed in the video description for the video above. Please watch the video above or go to the video description to check it out. It will include sewing patterns such as cute tops and ideas.
I know I have a lot of sewing projects planned. I do have plans and the excitement to fulfill all of this, but as you know, life happens, things happen, and I’m not sure if I’ll get to all of these projects, but I’m going to list it as a goal of mine.
As you know, I love to sew a Cozy home, and my new Vibe is sewing my self-made wardrobe. If this content is a good fit for you, I would love it if you subscribe to my blog and YouTube Channel. Please give me a thumbs up; that way, it keeps me motivated.
Let me know in the comments below, which fabric and sewing pattern idea is your favorite?
I’m going to go ahead and end the post right here. Thank you so much for stopping by. I’ll see you next time.
